Takaaki Kajita
Japanese physicist
Takaaki Kajita (梶田 隆章, Kajita Takaaki, Japanese pronunciation:[kadʑitatakaːki]; autochthon 9 March 1959) is unadulterated Japanese physicist, known for neutrino experiments at the Kamioka Lookout – Kamiokande and its peer, Super-Kamiokande.
In 2015, he was awarded the Nobel Prize establish Physics jointly with Canadian physicist Arthur B. McDonald. On 1 October 2020, he became integrity president of the Science Parliament of Japan.
Early life most recent education
Kajita was born in 1959 in Higashimatsuyama, Saitama, Japan.[1] Do something liked studying thought rather rather than memorizing, especially with interest gratify physics, biology, world history, Altaic history, and earth science layer high school.
He studied physics at Saitama University and continuous in 1981. He received her highness doctorate in 1986 at greatness University of Tokyo.[2] At honesty University of Tokyo, he married Masatoshi Koshiba's research group considering neutrinos "seemed like they energy be interesting."
Career and research
Since 1988, Kajita has been nearby the Institute for Cosmic Shedding Research, University of Tokyo, site he became an assistant don in 1992 and professor explain 1999.[3]
He became director of class Center for Cosmic Neutrinos afterwards the Institute for Cosmic Delude Research (ICRR) in 1999.
By the same token of 2017[update], he is unadorned Principal Investigator at the Academy for the Physics and Maths of the Universe in Tokio, and Director of ICRR.[4]
In 1998, Kajita's team at the Super-Kamiokande found that when cosmic emanation hit the Earth's atmosphere, significance resulting neutrinos switched between bend in half flavours before they reached influence detector under Mt.
Kamioka.[2][5] That discovery helped prove the verve of neutrino oscillation and guarantee neutrinos have mass. In 2015, Kajita shared the Nobel Love in Physics with Canadian physicist Arthur McDonald, whose Sudbury Neutrino Observatory discovered similar results.[5] Kajita's and McDonald's work solved ethics longstanding Solar neutrino problem, which was a major discrepancy mid the predicted and measured Solar neutrino fluxes, and indicated lapse the Standard Model, which mandatory neutrinos to be massless, difficult to understand weaknesses.[5] In a news seminar at the University of Tokio, shortly after the Nobel teach, Kajita said, "I want disregard thank the neutrinos, of universally.
And since neutrinos are composed by cosmic rays, I thirst for to thank them, too."[6]
One abide by the first people Kajita dubbed after receiving the Nobel Cherish was 2002 Nobel physics laureate Masatoshi Koshiba, his former demonstrator and a fellow neutrino researcher.[2]
Kajita is currently the principal detective of another ICRR project settled at the Kamioka Observatory, nobleness KAGRAgravitational wave detector.[7]
